Sonny
is a modern
day troubador in both his professional and musical lives, traveling across
the US and the globe to ply both his vocation (consulting) and his avocation(songwriting).
His musical journey started in East Meadow, New York (a few towns over
from Hicksville, hometown of Billy Joel). He started taking piano lessons
at age 4 and was quick to frustrate his teachers, who wanted him to pay
attention and not play everything by ear. Growing tired of formal piano
instruction at age 11 (when playing soccer and basketball seemed more
important), he never stopped playing and wrote his first song at age 16
(while sitting in English class). This lasted throughout his college years
in Ithaca, NY, where he began to play some of the campus coffeehouses
regularly, and to annoy all those who lived with him with his late night
playing and writing.
Out
into the real world, work was all consuming and did not leave time for
music (or so he thought) until the events of September 11th... The
singer/songwriter in Sonny mentally captured all of the unfolding events
(as he was in the middle of things, on the 81st floor of the North Tower
of the World Trade Center when the 1st plane hit) and led to his first
new song in many years, called, aptly, "Coming Home," which is one of
the thousands of stories of the day. With a newfound sense of musical
purpose - and with the maturity found at age 35 that was missing at age
18 - Sonny began to write again. He also began to play out at live venues
again, and discovered his voice in places like The Evening Muse in Charlotte,
NC.
This CD is 20 years in the making... as the saying goes "better late then
never"...
